10 Benefits of Sourdough Bread

Sourdough is simply the best bread on the planet! Its delicious, nutritious, filling and easy to digest.
Bread has been sustaining us since biblical times but sadly traditional processes have changed and the bread we now eat is nutritionally void and is making us ill!
The food industry is all about profit, not health.  Time is money so modern bread is produced really fast, extra salt to add flavour, added yeast for a fast rise, added enzymes, flour improvers, preservatives and a list of other ingredients, none of which are good for us!
Sourdough is real bread, made with only 3 ingredients, flour, water and salt, slowly fermented in the traditional way without commercial yeast and during that time a magical transformation takes place!

10 BENEFITS OF EATING SOURDOUGH BREAD

✔️The gluten is largely broken down, easing digestion

✔️Phytic acid is broken down releasing essential minerals calcium, zinc, iron and magnesium for the body to absorb

✔️There are only 3 ingredients, no emulsifiers, preservatives, fillers, or chemicals which all negatively impact gut bacteria.

✔️It has a lower Glycemic Index so keeps blood sugar level and is a great choice for diabetics

✔️Is a great source of prebiotic fibre, i.e. food for our gut bacteria

✔️If made with organic flour, then also no nasty pesticide residues for our gut to deal with

✔️Requires no artificial preservatives, the natural acidity prevents growth of pathogens

✔️Better keeping quality keeps fresh for longer

✔️It’s delicious and the acidity creates a natural sour tang which can be easily manipulated by the length of the fermentation

✔️The longer the fermentation, the more the gluten is broken down so the easier it is to digest

✔️Most folks who have a problem with gluten can eat sourdough with no digestive upset

I have been baking my own sourdough for a few years now and the whole family love it! We can easily eat a loaf in one sitting!

A sourdough starter can be used to make flatbreads, pizza bases, cookies, breadsticks, pretzels, pancakes and all manner of other baked goods!

Anything left to naturally ferment is literally pre-digested by the bacteria and yeasts in the starter, taking the pressure off our digestive system, which is great news for us!

So if you suffer from gluten intolerance, bloating or digestive upset and think you can never eat bread again, then perhaps you should switch to sourdough!

I am running full day Sourdough Workshops every month, covering every aspect of making your own sourdough It’s a fabulous day so why not join in the sourdough shenanigans and do your gut and your taste buds a favour!!

Here are the dates and link for all the details.

It's awesome that you elaborate on how the gluten in sourdough bread is easier to digest. I am somewhat sensitive to gluten, so I'm thinking about buying some sourdough bread to make sandwiches with. I'm going to search for a good business that can sell me some sourdough bread.
