As Valentines day approaches I’m sure we would all love a romantic evening, and why not, we deserve it! Romance is the life force of the universe and we are all worthy of love in our lives! However, I don't like the whole commercialism around Valentines Day and the focus on buying stuff, red roses, chocolates, jewellery.... The list goes on and we are made to feel that we have to spend money to prove our love. Now I don't agree with this at all and my way of showing love to those I love is to share delicious, healthy food with them, which I do on a regular basis ( every day...) and they do the same. It warms my heart to sit down to a home prepared meal with my family and of course my lovely husband Alastair ( we have been happily married for 30 years) and I count my blessings every day for the true love I have in my life from all of my family and friends. That's love worth celebrating and although we may not all have a romantic partner, hopefully we all have someone to love in our lives. So back to Valentines Day and food.....! None of us want to be slaving away in the kitchen for hours, getting all hot and sweaty ( and not in a good way! ) so I’ve created a super quick, rather delicious, incredibly healthy, full of aphrodisiacs and superfoods valentine meal for you to impress your other half! Essential nutrients, vitamins and stimulants all served up on a plate!! You won’t end up feeling bloated, uncomfortably full up and sluggish.; you will in fact feel fantastic, sexy and have loads of energy. As will your other half so you can enjoy your evening whispering sweet nothings to one another, dancing, canoodling or whatever else floats your boat, rather than slumped on the sofa, snoring,............never a good look! There are many foods in this menu which will have a positive effect on your mood, stamina and desire! So I challenge you not to have a truly romantic evening!! Happy Valentines Day Everyone! Tamari Almonds ![]() Almonds are ancient fertility symbols, high in Vit E and magnesium and rumoured to inspire female arousal! They are also delicious and highly alkalising so good news all round. Put 1 cup of almonds into a bowl and add a teaspoon of tamari sauce, a good grinding of sea salt , mix well, then tip onto a baking tray and bake in the oven at 200 C for 15 mins, shaking halfway through to prevent sticking........and thats it! Tip into a bowl and enjoy with a pre-dinner chilled glass of bubbly.. Goats Cheese and Asparagus Puffs with Rocket & Balsamic dressing. These wee heart shaped puffs are so simple and versatile. I've gone with asparagus and olives since olives are packed with antioxidants and healthy fats and the Greeks believed they made men more virile! Asparagus is high in B vitamins and is said to improve mood. and boost arousal. Goats cheese is just rather lovely and is easier to digest than cheese from cows! Rocket has been considered an aphrodisiac since the 1st century and is high in minerals and antioxidants. Ingredients pack of puff pastry goats cheese or feta cheese asparagus olives red or green pesto Method
Balsamic Dressing Take 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar, 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, 1 crushed clove of garlic, ½ teaspoon honey or rice syrup, ½ teaspoon mustard, ½ tsp ground turmeric and a good grinding of sea salt and black pepper. Simply, add the ingredients to an empty glass jar, put the lid on and give it a good shake! Its delicious and gives your bingo wings a workout! You can add a tablespoon of water if you prefer a thinner consistency. Creamy Avocado Spaghetti I love avocados, they are so creamy and delicious and packed full of good fats and Vitamin E. The Aztecs called it the Testicle Tree and it was banned by Catholic priests in Spain for being obscenly sexual! Basil is stimulating to the senses due to its wonderful aroma. Garlic contains allicin which increases bloodflow to certain parts and maintains sexual stamina! Spaghetti is just rather fun to eat. You could always just put one big bowl in the middle of the table and eat it together, like in Lady and The Tramp! This literally takes 15 minutes to throw together and it tastes deliciously fresh creamy and lemony. You can substitute any other gluten free pasta for the spaghetti or substitute raw julienned or spiralized courgette for an even healthier dish! You can add some chopped asparagus spears for a bit of crunch or some frozen peas. Either lightly grill or cook the asparagus spears for a few minutes with some olive oil, then chop into bite sized pieces and add to the spaghetti before serving. Ingredients: Makes 2 servings pack of spaghetti, 1 medium sized avocado, pitted big handful of fresh basil 2 cloves garlic, crushed Zest and juice of a lemon, about 3 or 4 tablespoons sea salt and black pepper Method 1. Cook the spaghetti in boiling salted water for 10 to 12 minutes. 2. While the pasta is cooking, make the sauce 3. Add the garlic, basil, peeled and pitted avocado, lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of water to a food processor and blend until smooth. If the sauce is too thick, add another tablespoon of water. 4. Season well with salt and pepper and add more lemon juice if you like. 5. Drain the pasta and put it back in the pot. Add the sauce and stir until mixed through. 6. Serve topped with finely grated lemon zest and basil leaves. Decadent Choco Mousse These are the most delicious but extremely healthy chocolate desserts, packed with superfoods raw cacao & maca,
They are so easy to prepare. The only thing you need to do in advance is peel, chop and freeze 2 ripe bananas. I always have ripe bananas in the freezer, they are great for smoothies, ice cream and these wee chocolate treats. If you freeze them in the morning, they should be fine to use by evening. Now, this dessert tastes great with just the basic ingredients but you can take it to the next level by adding the various superfoods but don't feel that you need to rush out and buy maca or raw cacao. They are expensive but they do pack a nutritional punch! Maca is known as Peruvian Ginseng for its libido boosting, mood boosting and hormone balancing effect. Raw cacao is the original superfood, packed full of mood boosting endorphins, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants! Bananas contain B vitamins, potassium and magnesium and will give you an energy boost. So the most basic version of this is frozen bananas plus cocoa powder, blitzed in a blender or a food processor. It has the texture of creamy ice cream but without the saturated fat and sugar rush! Ingredients: makes 4 small or 2 generous servings 2 frozen bananas, peel them first and cut into chunks 2 tablespoons raw cacao or cocoa powder 2 tablespoons desicated coconut (optional) 1 tablespoon peanut butter or almond butter 1 tablespoon maca powder 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 tablespoon maple syrup, rice syrup or 2 pitted medjool dates cocoa nibs or grated dark chocolate curls to decorate Method Take the bananas out of the freezer about an hour before you need them. Then simply add everything to a food processor or blender and blitz until smooth. Transfer to serving dishes and top with grated chocolate or raw cacao nibs. You can make it in advance and keep it in the fridge or eat it straight away then it tastes more like decadent ice cream!
